Cabaret

Based on Christopher Isherwood’s BERLIN STORIES, the show depicts the interlocking stories cabaret singer Sally Bowles and American writer Clifford Bradshaw and the denizens of Berlin, all caught up in the swirling maelstrom of a changing society in 1930 Germany. Please note that the film version of Cabaret is radically different from the stage production.

Actors of all ages are encouraged to audition for the roles listed below.

Master of Ceremonies (Emcee) – male or female  26 – 40 – The androgynous host at The Kit Kat Klub. The Emcee is charming but sleazy. Interacts with audience members (improvisation skills a plus). Sings the songs Wilkommen, Two Ladies, The Money Song/Sitting Pretty, If You Could See Her, I Don’t Care Much.

Sally Bowles – female-19-30 – the free-spirited, scandalous British singer at The Kit Kat Klub. Sings the songs Don’t Tell Momma, Perfectly Marvelous and Cabaret.

Clifford Bradshaw – male - 25-35 – an American novelist new to Berlin. Falls in love with Sally. Sings the songs Perfectly Marvelous and Don’t Go.

Fraulein Schneider – female - 45-70 – A landlady who rents rooms in her home, who falls in love with Herr Schultz. Sings the songs So What?, It Couldn’t Please Me More, Married and What Would You Do?


Herr Schultz – male – 50 – 70 One of Frl. Schneider’s roomers and proprietor of a Fruit Shop who falls in love with Frl. Schneider. Sings the songs It Couldn’t Please Me More and Married.


Fraulein Kost – female – 25-35 -Another roomer of Frl. Schneider who is a dancer at The Kit Kat Klub, she also prostitutes herself to sailors. Sings the song Tomorrow Belongs To Me (Reprise)

Ernst Ludwig – male – 30 – 45 – A friendly and likeable German who is a supporter of The Nazi Party. Sings the song Tomorrow Belongs To Me (Reprise)

Cabaret Girls and Boys – male and females – 18- 30 - chorus dancers at The Kit Kat Klub.

Various Minor Non Speaking/Singing Roles male and female – 18 - 70

Please be prepared to list all potential rehearsal conflicts on the audition form. Selected readings of the play will be used for the auditions. Please dress appropriately for a minor dance audition. Please prepare a selection from the show or bring sheet music or an accompanied (music only) cd that best highlights your vocal talent.
